What Is Tourette Syndrome?
Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes individuals to make involuntary movements and sounds known as tics. These tics can be motor tics (like blinking, head jerking, or shoulder shrugging) or vocal tics (such as throat clearing, grunting, or repeating words). Symptoms typically begin in childhood, often between the ages of 5 and 10, and can vary in frequency and intensity over time. While the exact cause of Tourette Syndrome is not fully understood, it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and neurological factors. It often occurs alongside other conditions such as ADHD or OCD.
